Theodorick Wingfield Montfort letters, 1862.

This collection consists of letters written by Theodorick Wingfield Montfort from Camp Wilson, Fort Pulaski, Hilton Head Island, Fort Columbus on Governor's Island, New York, Johnsons Island in Ohio, and Sundusky, Ohio. Several of his letters tell of daily life at Fort Pulaski. There is also a letter in the collection to T.W. Montfort from his cousin, F.W. Montfort, July 9, 1862, and parts of three other letters, probably written from Hilton Head Island.

Theodorick Wingfield Montfort (1823-1862), the son of Theodorick and Elizabeth Terrell Montfort, was a farmer and lawyer in Oglethorpe and Macon County, Georgia. As a 1st Lieutenant in Company B of the 22nd Georgia Battalion, Heavy Artillery, the Macon County Wise Guards he left with the company to serve the Confederacy in September, 1861.
